DECLUTTERING DOESN'T STICK WHEN YOU'RE THE ONLY ONE DOING IT!

ou have the timer. You have the before and afters. You are working your way through the house.

And you are doing every bit of it by yourself. Hard truth: IT WON'T LAST!

Here is the wall almost everyone hits: you're super invested in this new lifestyle but no one else is. So you are stuck decluttering and maintaining the systems to keep your home organized and un-cluttered.

And here's the thing, I got this wrong for years.

I have been decluttering for 27 years. For a lot of those years I ran it as my way or the highway. I thought if I could control everyone and all the things in our house, I would be calm. My nervous system would be regulated. Everyone would be on board.

BOY WAS I WRONG!

I got rid of things without asking. I pushed people until they gave in. Nothing that left this house was ever really their choice.

What I built was not a chaos free house.

INSTEAD I CREATED

Distrust

Resentment

"Do not touch my things" mentality

And the accusation that followed me around for years, every time something was "missing": mom must have donated it or thrown it out. And about 65% of the time they were right. And they are still upset about some of the things I got rid of (my kids are 25 and 16 now!)

It was not until I changed how I approached decluttering with them that things changed. Now they participate. Not only in the decluttering, but in keeping the house picked up every day, without me running it.

Remember, they are not refusing. They cannot start. They don't want to keep everything. They just want a choice.

Once I took this new approach my husband and my teenager cheerfully went through their totes.

Neither of them needed convincing. They needed the box to arrive and somebody to stay in the room.

Sounds fairly simple but there's quite a bit more to it than that and that's exactly why I created the Get Them On Board Bundle!

WHAT'S INCLUDED

  • Get Them On Board. Ten short chapters, one sitting. A tear-out card for the fridge, and word for word scripts for your partner, your teenager, your six year old, and the person who already told you no once.

  • The Coordinator's Notebook. The printable. Feelings first, then one box for one person, four times over.

It runs on what you are already doing. Same one box at a time, same timer in the Coordinator, except now they pick the number and you are not the only one in the room.

Today's price: $24

MEET LESLEY

I'm Lesley I knew I had ADHD at 19. I wasn't diagnosed until I was 40. Somewhere in between I worked out that the most overstimulating thing in my life wasn't noise or people, it was clutter.

Before any of this I ran rooms full of young children, where everything has a place, everything is safe, and the whole space is set up so every kid in it can succeed. I've run my own home that way ever since. Yours should be no different.
